Organon §24

Homeopathic treatment: A medicine is given that can produce an artificial disease state most similar to that of the natural disease.

There remains, therefore, no other manner of medicinal application promising aid against disease, except the homeopathic one. In homeopathy, a medicine is sought for the totality of symptoms of the disease case, with regard for the originating cause (when it is known) and for the accessory circumstances-a medicine is sought which (among all medicines whose condition-altering abilities are known from having been tested in healthy individuals) has the power and the tendency to engender the artificial disease state most similar to that of the case of disease in question.
