PEARL
(Oyster Pearl)
PHARMACY - pear. Pearl. Oyster Pearl. Aragonite, about 82-86%; conchiolin, 10-14%; and water, 2%. Pearls are calcified objects made by oysters and are usually pale white or cream colored, though darker blue, gray, and even black variations exist. Layers of aragonite, known as nacre, are secreted around the irritant and gradually build up to form the solid pearl. Historical dose: Tincture and all potencies.

CLINICAL-Arthritis. Breasts, disorders. Coughs. Headaches. Hypertension. Infertility. Tuberculosis.
HOMEOPATHIC - Soothing influence. Enhances curative powers. Promotes body fluids and the blood, nourishing the body tissues and the nerves.

Said to lessen stress and related maladies (hypertension, headaches, and exhaustion), which may help prevent heart attacks and strokes. Pearls supposedly aid in digestion and may reduce the chance of developing ulcers. Strengthens the female reproductive system, improves fertility, and calms the emotions.
A good pearl (not pierced) triturated in rose or kewra water, made into paste, dried and taken orally, is very beneficial for diseases caused by calcium deficiency. The ashes provide relief to body heat, are good for the eyes. Cures tuberculosis, chronic fevers, cough, breathing problems, palpitations, high blood pressure, heart ailments, exhaustion and weaknesses.

MIND - Pearl increases emotional stability, mental strength, friendliness and contentment. Weakness or afflictions are shown by anxiety, mental and emotional swings, worry, isolation or the inability to cope with relationships and people.

COMMENTS - The Arabs called pearls Tears of the gods," and said they were formed by drops of rain falling into oyster shells. The Chinese, regard pearls as the hidden soul of the oyster. "Margarithe," another name for this gem, means "child of light.” It has become a symbol of purity and virtue.

Pearls were essential toiletry articles, used to clean face and teeth. Applying the oyster shell containing a pearl to the affected area was said to heal leprosy and other skin diseases.
The gem was considered beneficial for easing indigestion, curing hemorrhoids, and counteracting poison. Taken in milk, they were used to cure ulcers. Nursing women took pearl concoctions to make their milk healthy and plentiful.

6 grains in water sweetened with manna (ash tree sap) was said to ward off the plague. Burnt pearl powder drunk in water stopped hemorrhages; inhaled, it cured headache. Oil of pearls was believed to fortify the nerves.

A pearl tonic can be made to increase vitality, relieve eye strain, and soothe burning urination; place several small pearls in water overnight and drink the water following day. The tonic is a natural antacid and anti-inflammatory.
