Organon §283

Start with small doses so that no harm will be done if the medicine given proves to be an unfitting one.

In order to proceed entirely in accordance with nature, the true medical-art practitioner will prescribe his homeopathic medicine, best selected in all respects, in such a small dose that if, upon occasion, he should be misled through human weakness into employing a more unfitting medicine, the disadvantage of its make-up (unsuitable as it is to the disease) would be so small that it could be rapidly extinguished and made good by the life's own power and by the immediate opposition (§249)-likewise in the smallest dose-of a now more fittingly selected remedy, selected according to similarity of action.
